Site5 Introduces Xen-Based Virtual Private Servers

Site5, a leader in shared, reseller, VPS, dedicated, and cloud hosting, today introduced Xen-based Virtual Private Servers, offering 100 percent dedicated system resources to each account, unlike other virtualization alternatives which share resources between user accounts. Because each Site5 Virtual Private Server offers guaranteed server resources, customers are able to expect a sustained high level of performance. When sever resources are shared between user accounts – as is an industry norm – customers can unexpectedly experience significant, periodic performance drops.

“We treat our hosting solutions as mission-critical for our customers, and we take every step possible to guarantee performance and uptime. By utilizing Xen in our Virtual Private Servers and guaranteeing system resources, we are able to create a tangible differentiator between Site5 and our imitators. When uptime and performance are a factor in the consumer buying process, Site5 wins every time. We’ve quite literally built our business on it,” said Site5 Chief Operating Officer Tom Sepper.

Site5 Xen-based Virtual Private Servers are widely customizable. Virtual Private Servers start at $50 per month for 40GB of disk space, 600GB of monthly bandwidth, and at least 756MB of RAM on the node. All plans include Site5’s exclusive “No Worry” Full Management, a control panel, at least two dedicated IP addresses, and a wide-variety of other value-added features.

In the coming months, Site5 plans to introduce additional Virtual Private Server hosting solutions, including an unmanaged alternative to its existing fully-managed services.

Earlier this month, Site5 introduced Shared Cloud Hosting and Cloud Virtual Private Serves. The cloud hosting solutions offer unprecedented reliability, speed, and scalability by virtualizing entire clusters of servers and creating a fully redundant hosting environment.

About Site5
Based in Denver, Colorado, Site5 is an international leader in affordable web hosting solutions for individuals and businesses. SiteGround Selects The Planet Server Cloud

The Planet, the global hosting leader, today announced that one of its largest reseller partners – SiteGround (http://www.siteground.com) – has selected the company’s Server Cloud as the new standard for its cloud offering. According to SiteGround, The Planet Server Cloud uses the best virtualization technology on the market to deliver a service with outstanding reliability, redundancy and flexibility, which is suitable for business websites of all sizes.

SiteGround is a leading provider of web hosting services, with more than 250,000 domains worldwide. The company offers shared hosting, reseller hosting, managed dedicated hosting solutions and now cloud hosting.

“We were early beta participants in The Planet’s Server Cloud testing, which provided us with opportunities to offer feedback on the platform,” said Tenko Nikolov, CEO of SiteGround. “Our customers rely on us to provide them with the best options to support their businesses, so we’ve thoroughly evaluated cloud options on the market. We were looking for pricing predictability and ample bandwidth allocations, in a no-surprises package for our customers. The Planet Server Cloud behaves like a dedicated server by guaranteeing our fair share of space, traffic and CPU, at a cheaper cost. It’s great for small and big sites that want to cut costs while at the same time get a reliable service.”

“Server Cloud was expressly designed for our existing customers, with a platform that’s purpose-built for web-based businesses,” said Carl Meadows, senior product manager for Cloud Services with The Planet. “For resellers like SiteGround, their customers operate websites that depend on platform stability. They’ve got to be up and running around the clock, providing the performance guarantees that keep their customers coming back.”

About The Planet Server Cloud

The Planet Server Cloud provides a broad range of features for customers looking to expand their hosting profile:

Dedicated Resources: All resources for The Planet Server Cloud are 100% guaranteed. Customers receive completely dedicated CPU, RAM, storage and network capacity, which ensures performance isn’t negatively affected by another customer’s usage.

Sun SAN Backend: The Planet Server Cloud is powered by a high-performance, high-availability Sun Storage Area Network (SAN). Many cloud solutions operate on local disks from the host server, leaving customers vulnerable to hardware failures that can result in down time and even data loss. Server Cloud is always available, since computing and storage resources are separate and independent. In the event of a complete host server failure, data is always protected.

Seamless, Rapid CPU, RAM Upgrades: Customers buy only what they require to get started and grow their performance seamlessly as demand expands. A single system reboot from the server host recognizes any added resources.

Enterprise-Grade Infrastructure: The Planet Server Cloud is powered by the latest technologies. From the Sun Microsystems SAN, to network gear supplied by Juniper and Cisco, and Dell servers equipped with Intel’s fast Nehalem processors, the company has developed this robust platform to be resilient under the most difficult loads.

Operating System Support: Customers can select operating system support from both Linux and Windows platforms, including Windows Server 2008 R2.

Managed Services: The Planet offers a full array of service upgrades, including managed server monitoring and remediation, server security management and managed backup.

Next-Generation Virtualization: The Planet built its Server Cloud on the Linux Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) Hypervisor, the primary platform supported by both The Linux Foundation and the top Linux distributions, including Canonical’s Ubuntu and Red Hat. KVM supports the latest virtualization technologies, including live migration, RAM de-duplication, para-virtualized storage and network capabilities, which combine stellar performance and efficiency. While other offerings require operating system (OS) modifications, KVM does not. Customers run unaltered/native versions of their chosen OS without any requirement for development modifications. As a result, they benefit from better security since new patches and updates are immediately available without the requirement for load development intervention.

OnApp launches Version 2.0 of groundbreaking cloud hosting software

After two years of private testing, OnApp v 2.0 has been launched to respond to market demands for a cloud engine for hosting providers. OnApp v 2.0 provides hosting companies a cloud management system with multiple benefits that will increase revenues, cut costs and increase stability. OnApp has been successfully implemented by a handful of private companies who used it to deploy over 30,000 VPS servers worldwide, attesting to its flexibility, reliability and adoption in the marketplace.

“OnApp v 2.0 is the kind of solution that enables hosting companies to scale more efficiently and move from dedicated servers to clouds, and jump on board before the market leaves them behind. OnApp was a pioneer cloud engine that is now thoroughly market proven and is the most customizable cloud software that service providers can own and grow with. It will help hosting companies build their brands and reputations in the marketplace,” says Carlos Rego, MD of OnApp.

Initially, v 1.x of the OnApp cloud engine software was designed by a team with deep hosting experience to meet the specific market requirements of VPS.NET; the ability to deploy custom virtual machines in a matter of minutes, set up public or private clouds (with no overhead) and manage all server resources on a virtual platform. Additionally, support for multiple operating systems is handled with ease with OnApp’s technology, which enables simultaneous hosting of servers with various operating systems. It runs on commodity hardware, such as Dell or SuperMicro and it can adopt any SAN/Storage solution available.

“The demand for cloud hosting was beyond our expectations; more than 10,000 servers went live within seven months of entering the market, and have now deployed almost three times as much on our OnApp powered platform, making it the fastest growing entity within the UK2 Group, outselling dedicated servers 10:1” says Nick Nelson, MD of VPS.net.

Merrill Lynch estimates the cloud computing market will reach $160 billion by 2011,OnApp reduces the barriers to entry for hosting providers to tap into this lucrative and rapidly growing market.

OnApp is a fully customizable cloud engine, with built in failover and resource management, utility and resource based billing, support for both Windows and Linux VMs and can be deployed in less than one day.

Currently OnApp is offering a promotion that gives clients the first year for free and a subsequent monthly licensing fee of $10 per physical CPU core that includes free setup, integration and 24/7 phone support.

About OnApp
OnAppdelivers virtualization and cloud infrastructure solutions that enable service providers to offer public and private clouds. With over 30,000 deployed virtual servers in less than 2 years, it is becoming one of the fastest growing cloud platforms in the market and the preferred choice for hosting providers looking to scale into the rapidly growing cloud industry. OnApp has offices in US and Europe and employs over 35 developers and can be found at www.onapp.com.
